Now, when you think of a fire station, you probably imagine big red engines, shiny helmets, and a team of firefighters springing into action at the sound of the bell. But on Wednesday 6 August, Tenby Fire Station was less about emergencies and more about entertainment, as the crew threw open their doors for their annual open day — swiftly followed by the famous Firefighters’ Carnival. And let me tell you, it was an absolute treat.

The Beating Heart of Tenby — “The fire engine, parked proudly outside the station, bunting overhead, and the whole town turning out. It’s not just a vehicle, it’s part of the community.”
The open day gave the community the perfect opportunity to peek behind the big red doors and see what really goes on inside. Children (and quite a few excitable adults) clambered aboard the fire engine, wide-eyed at the array of gadgets, hoses, and helmets. There were demonstrations, plenty of photo opportunities, and of course, the chance to chat to the firefighters themselves — who, despite looking like action film stars in their kit, couldn’t have been friendlier.
It wasn’t just the firefighters flying the flag. Partner organisations like Blood Bikes Wales and The Fire Fighters Charity were there too, raising awareness and giving people the chance to support the vital work they do.

When a Dragon Joins the Crew — “You know it’s Tenby Carnival when even the dragons turn up to lend a paw. No flames though, thank goodness — we had enough firefighters on hand just in case.”
Later in the day, the firefighters swapped their open day duties for parade mode, teaming up with the RNLI and other local groups to march through Tenby’s streets for the carnival. Music filled the air, smiles were everywhere, and in true carnival fashion — so was a good soaking. Yes, the Tenby firefighters’ tradition of keeping the crowd cool (and occasionally drenched) was alive and well. It’s the only parade where you’re guaranteed to come home wetter than you started!

Future Firefighter in Training — “This young lad’s face says it all: forget Paw Patrol, this is the real deal. He’s already measuring up the siren button.”
The crew at Tenby Fire Station would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came along, joined in the fun, and helped make the day such a success. Events like these remind us all of the heart of this community — a spirit that’s warm, welcoming, and always ready to rally behind its heroes in red and yellow.
So, here’s to another year of fire station fun, carnival cheer, and, of course, a splash or two along the way.

The Firefighting Dream Team — “They’ve put out fires, saved lives, and now they’re here posing like they’re on the cover of Tenby’s next calendar. Smiles all round… though one of them definitely knows he’s nailing the action-hero look.”
Thank you / Diolch yn fawr iawn
To everyone who came along, supported the day, and gave so generously — your presence makes all the difference.
