This walk from Saundersfoot to Kilgetty Ironworks and back, takes you on a walk spanning millions of years. Just over 5 miles in length you follow a disused railway track that once transported pig iron and ore to the local harbour for export, the views and scenery change constantly on this beautiful dramatic walk.
Starting your walk from the beautiful little town of Saundersfoot built around its harbour, this walk takes you through the town following the route of the old railway line, through several tunnels and alongside lava flows frozen in time for millions of years. This walk has so many nice distractions you could make a day of it sitting and staring at the scenery.
One such place is Coppet Hall beach, with The Kiosk and Coast restaurant you could treat yourself to an incredible culinary delight. You will also pass by the front door The Wisemans Bridge Inn, both on your way to the Ironworks and on the way back, so take a break and enjoy the views back along the coast to Saundersfoot and around the bay to Monkstone Point.
Continuing on from Wisemans Bridge the path takes you through the pleasantly named Pleasant Valley with its woodland walk. After 1.8k you arrive at the ironworks.
The remains consist of a bank of iron ore and lime kilns, the furnace bank, the site of two furnaces and hot air stoves, the double cast house, a double blowing engine house, workshops, and the sites of refineries and ancillary structures together with evidence of the tramline network that served them. Follow the same route back to Saundersfoot and enjoy the journey and views in reverse. Wisemans Bridge Inn conveniently appears for another cheeky drink, before you take a nice amble along the coast back to Saundersfoot.
