We love visiting farms and zoos with our children and there is nothing more exciting than visiting one when you are on holiday. They are a great way to entertain the entire family and tire out the kids. Here are children’s farms and zoos around Tenby for you to visit on your next trip.
Clerkenhill Adventure Farm is a fantastic day out for the entire family and it’s also great value for money. They have so much to take part in and enjoy. Their farm animals are well cared for and happy which is something we always look out for when visiting a farm or a zoo. You can take a stroll through one of their adventure trails, they have two trails you can follow. There is an adventure park with swings, tunnels, slides and lots more to play on. Inside the adventure park, there is an adventure castle which has plenty of places to play, run and hide. (And places for the adults to relax whilst the kids run around!) They even have their own beach to play in.
For rainy days they have indoor play areas too. For older children check out crazy golf or frisbee golf, the 18 basket frisbee golf is set over 10 acres of the farm. Clerkenhill Adventure farm makes learning fun too, take part in the milking viewing experience here. You can watch the whole milking process and ask the farmer questions, this is a great opportunity for children.
Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo is more than just a farm. They have over 750 animals in the zoo, vintage fairground rides and 8 adventure play areas. This is a great option for families looking to please everyone. There are indoor play areas too in case the weather isn’t great.
At Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, there is a Giraffe Heights walkway which is a great way to see Giraffes up close and personal. While you are visiting you will witness the endangered Eastern black rhino, penguins, lions, zebras, bongos, lemurs, meerkats, squirrel monkeys and many more animals. They have aviaries with all sorts of unusual birds and a Tropical Trail where you can spot snakes and tortoises, crocodiles, sloths and fruit bats. The Jolly Barn is a great place to introduce your children to animals, here there are ferrets, miniature ponies, shire horses, donkeys, goats, hens and chicks.
Located in the beautiful Welsh countryside, Manor Wildlife Park is a wonderful place to explore and get close to exotic animals. Great for adventurous kids and adults, you can get hands-on with the animals. Here you can walk alongside and cuddle with giant rabbits, feed wallabies, wander through woodland with red pandas, and admire the lemurs soaring above you through their lemur walkthrough. It’s lovely to meet such friendly and relaxed animals that are enjoying human contact. After visiting the animals there is a giant indoor play area, bouncy castle and climbing wall to tire out the kids. There is also a hay barn for children to play in whilst you enjoy a cuppa.
Dedicated to all things creepy and crawly! The Bug Farm is about an hour from Tenby, but so worth a visit. The Bug Farm is a research and visitor centre which features a Tropical Bug Zoo, Bug Museum, British Bug House, Insect Farming Exhibition, Farm Trails and a Walled Garden. There is something here to suit all ages. Celebrating the wonders of bugs and all they do for us, their focus here is on wildlife conservation. This is a fantastic experience for families, adults and groups.
Fancy trying something very different? They have an onsite cafe called Grub Kitchen which is the UK’s first edible insect restaurant. Don’t run away!…there are plenty of non-insect dishes available too.
Farms and zoos are a great way to build confidence in children, encourage their learning and have fun. Have you ever visited one of the farms and zoos in Tenby? Let us know in the comments, we love to hear your experiences.
